On Saturday, Sept. 7 beginning at 11 a.m. there will be a dedication ceremony for the recently-renamed Chief Peyton I. Flournoy Sr. Memorial Park Park at 20 W. Broad St. in Palmyra.
During the Regular Borough Council Meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 19, borough officials voted to rename Grove Park in honor of Flournoy, Palmyra’s first African-American Chief of Police.
According to officials, Chief Flournoy was the first African-American Chief of Police ever appointed in Burlington County and the state. It is widely believed he was the first in the nation as well.
Refreshments will be served in the community center adjacent to the park following the dedication ceremony. Memorabilia will be on display as locals share stories, memories and connect with old friends.
