The Cherry Hill Board of Education accepted the resignation of board member Dr. Edward Wang at its most recent meeting. Wang’s resignation means the board now has two vacant seats to fill.

The board previously accepted the resignation of board member David Rossi effective June 12. The district subsequently advertised a notice of vacancy for the seat, and board President Eric Goodwin said it received an overwhelming amount of interest from the community.

Goodwin said Wang, who was not in attendance on Tuesday night, was resigning due to personal reasons. He said Wang sent him a statement in which he expressed how much he appreciated working as a board member and serving the public and the opportunity to serve the community and school district.

“He worked tirelessly as a board member to really help advance the school district,” Goodwin said.

Goodwin said Cherry Hill is fortunate to have such strong community engagement. He said while the two resignations have put the board in “somewhat of a bind,” it received 20 applications from members of the public who have a desire to serve. He said thus far, the applicants have displayed impressive qualifications.

“We have a huge list, and you should look at all of the qualifications we’ve had the opportunity to look at and see,” Goodwin said. “All of these people are well qualified.”

The plan is to have the board go through the resumes it received and choose four individuals to advance to the next stage. Goodwin said these four people will be asked to come to the July 9 board meeting during which they’ll be interviewed in a forum-style setting. After that meeting, the board will choose two applicants to fill the seats.

From there, the two selected will be notified and will have to undergo a background check per state regulations. Once the checks are completed, the candidates can formally be seated on the board. Goodwin said he expects the entire process to unfold between the next six to eight weeks.
