School’s culinary department receives generous donation

Press release from Gloucester County.

AMVETS Post №77 NJ has made a donation of $1,000 to the GCIT Culinary Arts Department in recognition of the students and faculty for their continued support of local veterans.

“It is touching to see the relationship that has flourished between our veterans and our students,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Giuseppe (Joe) Chila, who presented a certificate to GCIT Culinary Arts Department. “For the last fifteen years the students in this program have baked a cake for Post №77’s annual AMVETS Day and this year the veterans wanted to return the kindness.”

Chila, who is the liaison to the Department of Veterans Affairs, said, “Our veterans are always helping others, and we are grateful for their service.”

AMVETS Post №77 Commander Donald E. Feldman said that the donation was for the many services the GCIT culinary arts program has provided to the chapter over the years. GCIT will use the donation for a $500 scholarship to a student going into baking and a $500 scholarship for a student going into the culinary arts.

Both the donation and the proclamation were presented on Oct. 27 at the AMVETS Post №77 Annual Meeting & Scholarship Dinner at their post in Mantua.
