Spring fun coming to Monroe Township in April

Easter egg hunts, wine and food truck festival and art festival a part of the festivities

Days are getting longer, the temperature is rising and the remnants of the long winter season have fallen to the wayside. Spring has sprung in Monroe Township, and there are plenty of opportunities to get into the spirit.

On April 6 and 7 at the Estate at Monroe Township, the Team Monroe Foundation will host its annual “Barrels for Badges Wine and Food Truck Festival.” Admission to the event is $1 with an additional cost of $15 to have a wine tasting with a commemorative glass.

The event runs from 2 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 7. The event will feature food trucks, craft vendors, a beer garden, cello bar, live music and a kids zone. Off-site parking is available with a complimentary shuttle service. Tickets are available at the door. Proceeds benefit the Team Monroe Foundation, which supports the Police Unity Tour and charities that support fallen officers.

On April 13 at Owens Park, the Monroe Township Parks and Recreation Commission will host its annual Easter egg hunt. The event will start at noon.

Parks and recreation clerk Tiffany Carney advises residents to show up early to the Easter egg hunt because it starts at noon on the dot.

“I did it the first year I moved here, I have four kids,” she said. “As we were walking in they said ‘Go!’ and it was over.”

Carney said the hunt will feature more than 10,000 eggs and is broken into five sections at Owens Park, children ages zero to 2, 3 to 5, 6 to 8, 9 to 12 and special needs children. The special needs section is done in partnership with the Friends of Special Needs Network and requires registration. Please call the parks and recreation office at (856) 728-9840 to do so.

Photographs with the Easter Bunny will be available as well. Carney said, between the photographs and the egg hunt, it makes for a great day at the park.

The parks and recreation commission is looking for volunteers for this event as well, contact the office for more information. The rain date for the Easter egg hunt is April 14 at the same time and location.

On April 27, the parks and recreation commission will host its fourth annual Arts Festival on Main Street.

“We try to promote homemade or handmade businesses,” Carney said. “It doesn’t have to be all art mediums, it can be digital photography, oil paintings, handmade jewelry, handmade soaps or candles, wreaths or crafts. It has to be handmade.”

She added there will be live music playing during the event, which will take place on the street between Church Street and Washington Avenue. A shuttle will run from 13th Child Brewery to Cross Key Brewing Company and back every 20 minutes for those looking to patronize the local breweries.

“We’re trying to show out-of-towners it’s not just this little section, we also have other businesses on Main Street,” Carney added.

The Arts Festival, will run from noon to 5 p.m. The rain date is set for the 28th at the same time and location.

Parking is available at the Pfeiffer Community Center and behind Newfield Bank. According to Carney, Hall Street, which is usually a one-way street, will be a two-way for the day.
