The Friends of the Free Public Library of Monroe Township have provided funds for the library to purchase museum passes to local venues, which all Monroe Township adult cardholders are eligible to check out, and Life Church hosted another emergency food pantry in Williamstown for community members in need. Friends of the Library provide local museum passes for check out
Museum passes are now available to adult library cardholders at the Free Public Library of Monroe Township. Passes are available for the Academy of Natural Sciences, Battleship New Jersey, Garden State Discovery Museum, Grounds for Sculpture, Independence Seaport Museum and Wheaton Arts & Cultural Center. The Friends of the Free Public Library of Monroe collected the money through events such as book sales at the library, in an attempt to provide the community with educational, professional, cultural and recreational information.
Life Church food pantry aims to nourish community
On Wednesdays from 2 to 4 p.m., Life Church in Williamstown hosts an emergency food pantry for members both inside and outside of the local community to come and take what they need. Assistant Pastor Marie Campbell explained while some other pantries have rules on how many times per month you can attend, Life Church has no guidelines or limitations — community members can come every week if needed. The pantry has been a resource in the community for about four years, according to Campbell.
Oak Knoll Elementary School recognizes January and February Terrific Kids
Oak Knoll has recently recognized its Terrific Kids for January and February. Terrific Kids is student-recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem and perseverance at Oak Knoll Elementary School. The program recognizes students who work with their teachers to set goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance or schoolwork — and who achieve those goals after a specified time.
Whitehall hosts first annual Reading After Dark event
On Thursday, March 1, Whitehall Elementary School hosted its first Reading After Dark session, inviting families back to the school for a night of fun and learning the importance of reading. Roughly 80 students and their families came out for the festivities, which culminated in refreshments and each student selecting a free book and receiving a spirit stick.
