Press release from Washington Township Public Schools
Students and staff at Birches Elementary School will likely brainstorm more than 50 ways to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary this year, but many activities and events have already been planned to showcase the 50th theme.
“We have so much to celebrate at Birches, and this is the perfect opportunity to bring our Birches family together,” principal Jessica Rose said. “We look forward to taking a walk down memory lane with so many people who have been a part of these successes.”
Thanks to signage provided by Lifetouch Studios, banners are greeting all school visitors with the announcement of the landmark anniversary. For Halloween, all school staff will be dressing like it is 1968. On Nov. 15, the 50th day of the current school year, the students will pose for a 5–0 photo, and teachers will have all if their doors decorated to represent one of the last 50 years, creating a visual timeline from 1968–2018.
A Golden Jubilee Open House is planned for Nov. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m., welcoming past and present students, and families. The evening will include games, face painting, photo booths, singing, and an alumni room.
A March gala also is being organized to celebrate part and present employees of the school.
