Murder-suicide leaves two doctors dead in Voorhees
Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk and Voorhees Police Chief Keith Hummel reported a killing in a township apartment complex Wednesday morning.
The prosecutor says Payman Houshmandpour, 32, was shot multiple times outside his home at The Club apartment complex in Voorhees about 7:30 a.m. He died at the scene.
The shooter, Giocondo Navek, 39, apparently had waited for Houshmandpour outside his home Wednesday morning. As Houshmandpour pulled his silver Audi out of a parking spot on his way to work, Navek approached the vehicle and shot Houshmandpour multiple times through the driver-side window, the prosecutor’s office said.
Navek fled the scene in a silver Nissan, officials said. A witness provided a detailed description of Navek’s vehicle and Voorhees police officers spotted it on Centennial Boulevard about a mile away from the scene of the shooting. Officers stopped the vehicle and approached, ordering Navek to make his hands visible to them. Navek did not respond and fatally shot himself as police approached, the prosecutor’s office said.
Houshmandpour worked as a resident physician at Virtua Hospital. Navek, also a doctor, was a former employee of the same and the two were acquainted through work.
An investigation is ongoing into Navek’s activities prior to today’s events.
