Mayors Column- Maccabi Games

The Katz JCC of Cherry Hill will be hosting the 2014 JCC Maccabi Games from August 10–15. Voorhees Township is proud to be one of several South Jersey communities to host events as part of the Games.

The JCC Maccabi Games is the largest annual gathering of Jewish athletes in the world. This summer, the Cherry Hill JCC will welcome over 1,000 visiting athletes from across the United States, Mexico, Great Britain and Israel along with over 200 local athletes ages 12–16 accompanied by their coaches, family members and friends.

All are encouraged to participate, as there are opportunities to get involved on many levels. Among the wide variety of volunteers being sought are those with experience in the medical field, marketing, sports officiating, scorekeeping, hospitality, clerical, social media and more. Jewish families are also being sought to house athletes who are arriving from outside our region.

Over 2,500 local volunteers and 400 host families are needed to execute this huge and exciting undertaking that will showcase our area to over 10,000 spectators from across the United States as well as abroad.

During the JCC Maccabi Games, these young athletes will compete in Olympic-style games, participate in community service projects and enjoy getting to know their fellow athletes during a variety of social events.
