Camden County officials tackling latest snowstorm

More than 70 pieces of equipment and 80 employees were deployed from the Public Works complex in Lindenwold to the 12 winter maintenance districts this morning in anticipation of today’s snowstorm. As snow aggressively falls across Camden County, crews are on the job clearing 400 miles of county roadways this morning and preparing for an extended winter weather engagement well into the late afternoon.

“Starting from storm preparations Friday, county personnel are continuing to move the rapidly accumulating snow off of our roads. This is a full scale operation with all equipment and manpower mobilized to keep Camden County motorists moving and streets clear,” said Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works.

Snow is falling fast and accumulation totals will be about an inch an hour according to current forecasts.

“I’m requesting that all residents stay off the roads to give our plows the ability to effectively do their job and get snow away from the traveling lanes,” Leonard said. “Extra vehicles on the highway system will congest and slow down our plowing operation. Also, please move any cars off the street and into a driveway while we continue our plowing operations.”

The latest forecast obtained by Camden County is calling for the rapid heavy snow to continue to fall throughout the day. Depending on your location in Camden County, accumulations of three to seven inches are expected before the snow ends between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Temperatures will fall below freezing tonight with eight to 18 mile per hour winds out of the northwest.
