Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno visited Virtua Moorestown Health and Wellness Center to present Virtua President and CEO Richard P. Miller with a commendation letter that honored the health system for its recognition by the Leapfrog Group for its Outstanding Patient Safety Record.

All of Virtua’s hospitals, Berlin, Marlton, Mount Holly and Voorhees were awarded an “A” in the Fall 2014 Hospital Safety Scores. In addition, Virtua’s Voorhees hospital was named to the Leapfrog Group annual list of Top Hospitals in the U.S. The Voorhees hospital is the only full-service, non-specialty hospital in the region to achieve this distinction and one of only 94 Top Hospitals recognized nationally.

“Nothing is more important than the health and well-being of our residents, and today we recognize the Virtua family of hospitals’ outstanding leadership and contributions to this effort,” Guadagno said. “On behalf of the State of New Jersey, I congratulate Virtua on being recognized with the Leapfrog Group’s ‘Outstanding Patient Safety Record’ award and thank all those who work to ensure that patient safety comes first.”

The Lt. Governor presented Miller and members of leadership with the letter honoring the efforts of Virtua’s 8,700 employees.

“We are honored to have Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno visit Virtua,” Miller said. “We are particularly pleased that she has taken the time to recognize Virtua’s hard work and achievements in the area of patient safety.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score consists of 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data that involve processes, structures, and outcomes. All of this is compiled to produce a single letter grade that represents a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm and medical error.

The Top Hospital award is an elite distinction presented to less than seven percent of all eligible hospitals nationwide for demonstrating excellence in hospital safety and quality through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey.
