For too many New Jerseyans, addiction begins in the medicine cabinet. The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs has developed Project Medicine Drop as an important component of its effort to halt the abuse and diversion of prescription drugs. It allows consumers to dispose of unused and expired medications anonymously.
The Voorhees Township Police Department is participating in the program and the police station lobby has a drop box available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The prominent “Project Medicine Drop” logo makes the box highly visible and recognizable. Our police station is located at 1180 White Horse Road.
This initiative builds on the success of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Take Back Initiative, and the American Medicine Chest Challenge. The initiative is sponsored in New Jersey by the DEA, Partnership for a Drug Free New Jersey and the Sheriffs’ Association of New Jersey.
Project Medicine Drop provides the opportunity to discard unused prescription medications in a safe, convenient and anonymous manner. Our Police Department will maintain custody of the deposited drugs and dispose of them according to their normal procedures for the custody and destruction of controlled dangerous substances. They report the quantity of discarded drugs to the Division of Consumer Affairs on a quarterly basis.
The Division plans to expand the program to include police departments in each of New Jersey’s 21 counties.

**Voorhees Township will be part of National Night Out on Tuesday evening, Aug. 4, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will be held at the Voorhees Town Center and will include members of our police department, including our K9’s, the Fire Department, the Department of Public Works, EMS, the Domestic Violence Task Force and Safe Kids New Jersey. The night will include activities sponsored by AAA, the Skate Zone, Lowe’s, Rizzieri’s, the Animal Welfare Association and more. An area will be set up for kids to see and sit in emergency vehicles. The Voorhees Town Center will provide a DJ and food trucks will also be on hand.
**The next show in our Summer Twilight Series is Friday, Aug. 7, as Voorhees Township welcomes for the first time Good Vibrations: A Celebration of the Beach Boys. Good Vibrations blends the vocal layering and studio precision that is a signature of the Beach Boys with the energy of a live stage production. Elaborate lighting effects and costumes aptly frame the seasoned musicians who step into these very large shoes to render an authentic Beach Boys experience.
