The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Monday, July 20 to remain in effect until 8 p.m. this evening.
The warning covers the counties of New Castle, Mercer, Gloucester, Camden, Northwestern Burlington, Delaware, Eastern Chester, Eastern Montgomery and Lower Bucks.
Maximum temperatures are expected to be in the mid-90s today.Maximum heat index values are expected to be between 100–105 this afternoon.

An excessive heat warning means that a period of excessive heat is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
The excessive heat and humidity will become a danger if proper precautions are not taken.
The precautionary/preparedness actions include:
-Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check on elderly relatives and neighbors.
-Children and pets should never be left unattended in a parked vehicle under any circumstance, but most especially during hot weather. The interior of a vehicle can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
-Do not forget about your pets. Make sure that they have adequate water and shelter from the sun.
-Take extra precautions if working or spending time outside. If possible, reschedule strenuous activities for the early morning or late evening.
-Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, including -confusion, dark-colored urine (a sign of dehydration) dizziness, fainting, fatigue, headache, muscle or abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, and or diarrhea.
-Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water.
-If working outdoors, reduce risk by scheduling frequent rest breaks in a shaded or air conditioned environment. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 911 in necessary.
