At the Aug. 10 meeting of the Voorhees Township Committee, committee was able to insert about $266,000 of revenue into its budget thanks to receiving two stateĀ grants.
The larger of the two grants, valued at $192,000, stems from the NJ Bikeway GrantĀ Program.
The state Department of Transportation runs the program that allows counties and municipalities to receive funds to promote bicycling as an alternative to using other forms of transportation.
The grant is awarded to counties and municipalities with the priority given to the construction of new bike paths, although the construction of new bike facilities is also considered.
The smaller of two grants Voorhees received was valued at $74,000 through the New Jersey Safe Streets to TransitĀ program.
The program, also run by the NJDOT, provides funding to counties and municipalities to use in improving access to public transportation.
Uses of the grant can range from a goal such as improving the safety of those walking to transit facilities, or promoting transit users walk to their station instead or use an automobile.
