Moorestown: The 200 CLUB OF BURLINGTON COUNTY is pleased to announce they will celebrate the organization’s 28th annual Valor Awards Dinner on Friday February 23, 2018 at Merion Caterers in Cinnaminson, N.J.
The 200 Club of Burlington County is a charitable, non-profit organization comprised entirely of dedicated volunteers with the primary mission of providing financial assistance to the families of fallen or injured members of the State Police, County and Municipal Police, Fire or Emergency Medical Services serving the citizens of Burlington County. The Club also supports these public safety professionals through the awarding of higher education scholarships, advanced training awards and special recognition awards. The program will include the presentation of awards to several members of the Burlington County law enforcement, fire and EMS community in the categories of HONOR-VALOR, awarded for an act or deed of personal bravery involving risk to the individuals own life, above and beyond the performance of duty and the, MERITORIOUS AWARD, awarded for service rendered when an individual, with diligence and perseverance, conspicuously performs their duty, above and beyond the call of duty. Examples: prevents crime, protects life and/or property, apprehends criminals, or otherwise performs a deed which reflects credit upon the individual and the agency he or she represents. The DISTINGUISHED SERVICE is awarded to an individual that has dedicated years of unqualified giving and service to the betterment of their community, department and profession and ADVANCED TRAINING AWARDS, presented to a department or agency for the purpose of funding advanced public safety training programs which enhance the individual’s ability to perform their duties or conduct the training necessary to improve other members’ capabilities.
In addition, the 200 Club of Burlington County will distribute $10,000 in Scholarship funds by presenting four $2,500 Scholarships to family members of Burlington County police officers, County detectives, troopers, firefighters, or EMS personnel to offset the cost of college.
The winners of this year’s scholarships include, Lynee’ Dotson, Pemberton, NJ, Tyler Denelsbeck, Egg Harbor, NJ, Daniel Schneider, Tabernacle NJ and Christopher J Knight, Riverside NJ
The 200 Club will also present four Advanced Training Awards to local fire and police agencies to fund training for their personnel. The agencies receiving these awards include the Moorestown Township Police Department, The Medford Lakes Police Department, The Cinnaminson Fire Department and the Palmyra/Cinnaminson/Riverton EMS. Funds totaling $5,300 will be divided and awarded to these agencies to pay for advance education and training.
Distinguished Service Award. The 200 Club’s Honor-Valor Awards Committee will present this honor to Former Chief James C Bauer of the Delran Fire Company for his decades of dedicated service to the Fire Company and citizens of Delran Township. Chief Bauer joined the Delran Fire Company No 2 in 1974 and has served as an active Firefighter, answering over 10,000 calls during his career. Chief Bauer rose through the ranks of the agency and is responsible for many of the department’s current policies and training that enhanced the overall operation of the Delran Fire Department.
Meritorious Service. Officers included in this prestigious recognition include members of the following agencies: Palmyra Police Department, Cinnaminson and Riverton Police Departments; New Jersey State Police Major Crimes Unit and the Medford Lakes Police Department.
On July 15, 2017 Officers representing the Palmyra, Cinnaminson and Riverton entered an apartment building on fire located on Morgan Ave. with complete disregard for their own safety entered the fire and evacuated the residents, saving numerous lives.
On July 1, 2017 members of the New Jersey State Police responded to a report of an unresponsive male inside his home in Tabernacle N.J. The subsequent intense investigation conducted by the N.J.S.P resulted in identifying and arresting the suspect along with recovering the handgun used in the murder.
Medford Lakes Officer Mark McHugh is being honored for successfully resuscitating 3 citizens on 3 separate occasions during 2017 using both CPR and the application of a portable AED. In each case the victim had stopped breathing and had no pulse.
The capstone of the evening will be the presentation of 2017 Honor Valor Awards. The recipients of these awards include Officers of the Delran Police Department and Officers from the Edgewater Park Police Departments for their heroism during an investigation involving a motor vehicle crash that resulted in two deaths.
On Saturday, January 14, 2018, at approximately 4:30 p.m. police responded to a fatal crash at the jug handle of Route 130 and Bridgeboro Road in Willingboro. A vehicle was stopped at a red light and waiting to cross the highway when it was struck by a northbound vehicle. The impact sent the vehicle through a guard barrier, down an embankment into Olympia Lakes, where it became submerged. The occupants were pulled from the water by police and rescue crews who entered the frozen river without regard of their own safety. Both occupants were pronounced dead later that evening at Lourdes Hospital in Willingboro.
Special Recognition Award
Special recognition awards will be presented to Senator Diane Allen for her more than 20 years of support and contributions to the Burlington County Law Enforcement Community and the 200 Club.
Special recognition will be awarded to Moorestown resident Debbie Johnson, wife of former Moorestown Police Public Safety Harry Johnson for her generous gift to fund the training and education in his honor.
