Seneca students raised more than $16,000 for cancer research

The funds were raised through Seneca’s “A Walk Under Our Stars” event.

On Wednesday, Nov. 17, Seneca students presented a check for $16,247.75 to Gina McAleese, a representative of the American Cancer Society. Students raised the funds through “A Walk Under Our Stars — A Relay for Life Event” which was held at Seneca on Friday, Oct. 19.

Our Seneca family performed a relay, walking for eight hours — sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Participants were broken up into teams, with at least one member of each team walking the track at all times.

This was a squeal to an event we ran in 2012, A Walk Under Our Stars, which was inspired by our summer reading book that year, “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green.

Over 600 students participated in the walk this year. The top three teams to fundraise the most money have been invited to breakfast with the superintendent, Dr. Carol Birnbohm, in December.
