Burlington County College is pleased to announce that Edith A. Corbin has been selected as the college’s new Educational Opportunity Fund Director.
Corbin has 18 years of progressive experience in government and non-profit senior management roles, and was most recently Director of Education and Health Departments for the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League in Wilmington, Delaware.
A distinguished alumnus from Salem Community College, Corbin graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Administration of Human Services from Springfield College and Magna Cum Laude with an M.S. in Organizational Leadership from Wilmington University.
Corbin views her new position at BCC as a natural progression and a calling.
“Community college is where I received my foundation,” she said.
Since succeeding in her own academic endeavors, Corbin has been dedicated to helping and empowering people to achieve their full potential, irrespective of their background or circumstances. Prior to her position at the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League, Corbin served as Associate Executive Director of the YWCA of Delaware for seven years.
Edith has an extensive background in strategic planning, establishing donor relationships, securing grant funding, identifying business
development opportunities, implementing entrepreneurial fundraising, and addressing opportunity gaps in education and health. She is the recipient of the “Distinguished Alumni of the Year” award from Salem Community College Foundation, “Woman of the Year” award from Bronzettes, Inc. of Trenton, “25 Heroes in 25 Years” award for HIV/AIDS education from Beautiful Gate Outreach Center and the
“Victim Services Award” from the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office. She is also past President of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Delaware Chapter and former Vice President of Calvary Community Development Corporation in Salem County.
“My core professional focus has been based in program, partnership, and public policy development. I look forward to using my talent and knowledge to equip people with the tools necessary to succeed at college, particularly, the first-generation college student,” said Corbin.
As EOF Director, Edith is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of the EOF program, which includes managing staff, program development and implementation, budgeting, compliance and evaluation.
Currently, the program serves 114 EOF students at BCC. Twenty-one of these students recently received the 2013 New Jersey Higher Education EOF Award for academic achievement based upon their GPA and demonstrated commitment to EOF.
Edith has two sons, Andrew and Kevin Ransome, both of whom are married and live and work in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland, respectively.
She enjoys spending time with her three grandchildren, the apples of her eye.
She is currently in the process of relocating to New Jersey, her home state.
