• Lt. Gov. Comes to Tabernacle — I had the privilege of meeting with Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno last month as well as our Assemblywoman Diane Gove, New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Doug Fisher and Assistant Secretary Al Murray. The dignitaries were in Tabernacle to tour Russo’s Fruit and Vegetable Farm and meet the Russo Family who have lived and worked in our community since 1940. Russo’s Farm Market is one of the most successful agricultural businesses in the State, and the Township Committee recognized their years of service to the community at our meeting on Aug. 26.
• Facebook plays a role in Neighborhood Watch — Historically, one of the advantages of living in Tabernacle has been the sense of community and cooperation among our residents, and with the use of social media, information travels faster than ever before. Tabernacle is very fortunate to have the New Jersey State Police serve as our police protection, but the communication among our neighbors is also an important tool in creating awareness of any unfortunate incidents within our borders. Recently, one of our residents created a Facebook page titled: ”Tabernacle New Jersey Neighborhood Watch.” This page is an additional method to instantly share information with each other in regard to activity within our neighborhoods.
• New Road Temporary Road Closure — New Road will be closed between Mallard Drive and Fox Chase Road from approximately Sept. 23 to Oct. 14.
Access will be available to all of the homes along the route, but drivers will need to use Zimmerman Road to travel between the Fox Chase/Powell Place section of town to Nixon’s, Tabernacle Elementary, Kenneth R. Olson Middle and all points east. This is a much-needed improvement to the infrastructure of the Bread and Cheese Run Culvert and will be completed as soon as possible.
• Tax Bill Due Date Extended — The property tax bills which are normally due Aug. 1, are now due today the 6th of September, with no penalty.
