Portraits students made created portraits for children in Ukraine
Seneca High School’s Art Major class teamed up with the non-profit organization The Memory Project to create portraits of children in the country of Ukraine. Due to the recent events in war-torn countries such as Syria and Ukraine, the students in the Art Major class expressed an interest in trying to help people in these countries. With the help of their art teacher Ms. Katie Cichon, the class teamed up with The Memory Project to create portraits for children in Ukraine.
The Memory Project, a charitable nonprofit organization, invites art teachers and their students to create portraits for youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as neglect, abuse, loss of parents, violence, and extreme poverty. The Art Major class recently finished the portraits and are getting ready to mail them back to The Memory Project headquarters in Middleton, WI, where the portraits will be received and then delivered to Ukraine This unique opportunity gives Seneca students a chance to use their amazing artistic talents to give back to those less fortunate and serve in world community service. Junior Jennifer Mackey said, “I’m glad we were able to connect what we do in the classroom to an outside of school cause and help others in the process.”
