Winslow Township Middle School teacher Ross Cruz wins $15,000 for school

The winnings will go toward a new maker space, a garden for the school’s STEM programs and a visit from HGTV’s Nicole Curtis.

Ross Cruz, third from right, celebrates being named 2015–2016 Winslow Township School District teacher of the year with his family and WTMS Principal Stella Nwanguma, second from right, and Winslow Township School District Superintendent H. Major Poteat, Ed.D., far right.

Winslow Township Middle School and Environmental STEM teacher Ross Cruz won a $15,000 grand prize in the Bernzomatic Find Your Fire Community Grants Program. The winnings will go toward a new maker space, a garden for the school’s STEM programs and a visit from HGTV’s Nicole Curtis.

The Find Your Fire Community Grants program encouraged makers, inventors, tinkerers, creators and artists from across the country to tell Bernzomatic about a maker project that would benefit their community and involve the use of a handheld torch in some way.

“Winslow Township Middle School’s plan to build a creative workspace for students will have a huge community impact, and I can’t wait to help them dig in during an upcoming visit,” said Curtis.

Cruz, a Marlton resident, was named a 2016 Eagles/Axalta All-Pro Teacher in December, and within the past year, he has received numerous additional grants and awards for his work for the Winslow Township Middle School Environmental STEM program.
