Burlington Township Education Association and Board of Education have reached a contract agreement

The Burlington Township Principals’ and Supervisors’ Association also has a new contract

After several bargaining and mediation sessions over the past year, Board of Education President Sherry Night announced at the Dec. 21 board meeting that an agreement has been reached with the Burlington Township Education Association.

Knight says the agreement is a positive development for the district. The contract between the board and the BTEA expired on June 30, and the teachers continued to work under the terms and conditions of the expired contract.

The new contract is effective retroactively to July 1 and will expire on June 30, 2019.

Under the new contract, BTEA members will receive a 3.1 percent salary increase for the 2016–2017 school year, a 3.3 percent salary increase for the 2017–2018 school year and a 3.1 percent salary increase for the 2018–2019 school year.

Effective as of July 1, one additional workday was added to the school year, which now shall not exceed 184 full days plus two half days along with each member engaging in four hours of self-directed professional development to complete mandated training.

As of July 1, 2017, BTEA members’ office copays will increase from $5 to $10, and emergency room copays will increase from $25 to $50.

As of July 1, 2018, benefits changes will also include an insurance waiver that will be capped at $8,500.

Knight said the Board of Education negotiation team believes this agreement represents a fair and equitable resolution.

“Gratitude is extended to both sides for spending so much time and energy in reaching a compromise,” Knight said.

In addition to the contract between the BOE and the BTEA, an agreement has also been reached between the BOE and the Burlington Township Principals’ and Supervisors’ Association.

The current contract between the BOE and the BTPSA will expire on June 30. The new contract is effective July 1 and will expire June 30, 2020.

Under the new contract, BTPSA members will receive 3 percent salary increase each year. Benefit changes will include an insurance waiver that will be capped at $8,500 and elimination of a retirement dental plan.
