Shamong Foundation for Educational Excellence to host “Beat the Winter Blues Comedy Night”

The Shamong Board of Education used its monthly meeting to focus on personnel matters, including approval of leaves of absence, appointments, volunteers and the hiring of teachers and substitutes.

The board also granted approval to educators and administrators to attend various conferences and for community groups to utilize school facilities.

Jackie Johnson and SheriLyn Perkins were approved as volunteers to help teachers during the school year. The volunteers are separate from the district’s teachers’ aides, who are paid for their work.

In other news:

• The board approved a resolution to renew membership in the Burlington County Insurance Pool for the three-year membership term commencing on July 1.

• In March, students will take part in a field test of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers that will replace the current NJ ASK for the 2014–2015 school year. The assessment will be conducted online and is interactive for students and teachers. PARCC received a $186 million grant through the U.S. Department of Education to support the development and design of the next-generation assessment system.

• The Shamong Foundation For Educational Excellence announced the eighth annual “Beat the Winter Blues Comedy Night.” The event will take place March 7 at Lucien’s Manor in Berlin from 7 p.m. to midnight.
It’s asking residents to please join and support the efforts of the foundation for the benefit and enrichment of the Shamong School District. The event will include a performance by three comedians, cash bar, dinner, basket raffles, live auction and dancing. Tickets are $60 each. • Schools will be closed Friday, Feb. 14 for a teacher in-service day and Monday, Feb. 17 in recognition of President’s Day.
