Burlington Township Fire Department offering residents a chance to play firefighter
The Burlington Township Fire Department has implemented a ride along program to give aspiring volunteer firefighters the chance to experience a night as a firefighter. The program allows those interested to observe firefighters’ routines, training and responses to emergency calls. Stewart said Burlington Township is an all-volunteer fire department, and these days it’s more difficult to get volunteers. He said the hope is that by giving potential volunteers a taste of the experience, they will be more inclined to join.
Police Department takes the wheel on distracted driving
For the Burlington Township Police Department, traffic safety and enforcement eat up most of its time, yet it still seems like there is more that could be done, according to Lt. James Sullivan. So whenever the state offers funding that will allow township police to get more officers out on the roads, they take it. For that reason, Burlington Township police applied to participate in the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety 2017 Distracted Driving Crackdown “U Drive, U Text, U Pay” for the second year in a row. With the $5,500 grant they received, Burlington Township police were able to add 25, four-hour shifts of officers between April 1 and April 21.
Holocaust survivor to speak at County Library
Ernest Kaufman, a World War II veteran, Holocaust survivor, and author, will share his life story with the community on Sunday, April 30 at 2 p.m. in the County Library auditorium in Westampton. Kaufman’s appearance is the second installment in the library’s new Community Stories program, a series of personal tales and life journeys from residents of Burlington County. Registration is requested.
