Weekly roundup: Locals aid Puerto Rico hurricane victims

The Mullica Hill Rotary made a visit to Harrison Township Elementary School to distribute more than 200 dictionaries to the third grade class on Friday, Oct. 20. Students participated in games where they were asked to look up specific words in the dictionary, describe their word and its definition. On average, the Rotary hands out about 550 dictionaries everyĀ year.

Harrison Township resident Ida Yurgin and her family plan trip to deliver goods and supplies to hurricane victims in Puerto Rico, while Clearview Regional High School District and Harrison Township Committee held their regular meetings this month. HVAC complications, 2017 assessment results presented at Clearview Board of Education meeting

The Clearview Regional High School District Board of Education presented the 2016ā€“17 school year assessment data at the Oct. 17 meeting, as well as provided an update in regard to the recent HVAC issues experienced in the high school. According to Superintendent John Horchak III, an air quality test was administered to multiple classrooms on Sunday, Oct. 15, determining the safety for staff and students.

Harrison Township School District presents roofing project update to committee

Harrison Township School District administrators presented the committee and community an update on the Harrison Township School roofing project at the Oct. 16 committee meeting. According to Superintendent Missy Peretti and Business Administrator and Board Secretary Bob Scharle, phase one of the improvements has been completed, with phase two to begin nextĀ summer.

Locals plan trip to Puerto Rico in effort to aid victims of Hurricane Maria

Puerto Rico was devastated after the impact of Hurricane Irma in early September, and again with a repeat direct hit of Hurricane Maria just weeks later. Mullica Hill resident Ida Yurgin remembers the last text message she received from her cousin, a resident of the U.S. territory moments before they lostĀ power.
