The show will also have repeat performances in the morning and afternoon on Nov. 17, with a character breakfast that day as well.
Lenape High School student Aniela Mazzola is about to have her fairy godmother behind her, a royal ball in front of her and glass slippers on her feet as she takes on the titular role in Lenape’s upcoming production of “Cinderella.”
The production debuts at Lenape on Thursday, Nov. 15, with repeat performances in the morning and afternoon on Saturday, Nov. 17.
Similar to last year’s fall show at Lenape, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” this year’s production of “Cinderella” is also geared toward a younger audience, with the show’s performers set to interact with the audience throughout this classic fairy tale known to children all around the world.
Mazzola, now a senior at Lenape, describes Cinderella as one of her favorite fictional princesses.
“She wasn’t born into the princess life, it was never what was meant for her. She started off very low in society and she was able to work her way up in some magical way…I feel like a dream is a wish your heart makes,” Mazzola said, quoting the song from Disney’s 1950 adaptation of “Cinderella.”
When asked how Lenape’s production of “Cinderella” would stand out from other adaptations of the story that audiences might be familiar with, Mazzola smiled as she hinted at a few surprises that may be in store for audiences.
“I feel like there’s a little bit more of an element of magic involved,” Mazzola said.
For junior Leah Clemens, who is set to play the role of Cinderella’s evil stepmother and the villain of the show, she believes the production will stand out from other adaptations of “Cinderella” based on the tight-knit nature of the production’s cast and how well they play off of one another because of that bond.
She also highlighted the pieces of the show that will feature participation from those in the audience.
“It just makes everything so much more exciting,” Clemens said.
Another student excited about the show is Enrique Gonzalez, a senior getting ready to play the role of the show’s prince who searches his kingdom far and wide to find the foot of the fair young maiden that perfectly fits the show’s iconic glass slipper.
“I think it’s a classic,” Gonzalez describing the show. “A lot of people know it, it’s a very recognizable name, and the second people hear that name they automatically think of that glass slipper. We’re just here to show the audience that we have a classic coming to life at Lenape.”
Lenape’s production of “Cinderella” debuts at Lenape on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 6:30 p.m. The show will also run again on Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Tickets for each show are $10 for adults and $8 for children, students and seniors.
Those with a Golden Age Pass can attend any of the production’s three performances.
Those interested can also attend the production’s special character breakfast at 9 a.m. before the morning show on Nov. 17. A $15 general admission combo ticket is available for the character breakfast and 11 a.m. performance on Nov. 17.
