Tensions ‘ware’ thin at planning board meeting
Burlington Township residents and planning board members alike expressed their frustration at the Thursday, June 8 planning board meeting where residents questioned how their town could allow a warehouse to be built in their backyards. Residents of the Steeplechase development made their appeals that the board find a way to stop the redevelopment of McCollister’s Transportation Group property, with the board ultimately stopping the meeting at 1 a.m., deciding that rather than granting preliminary approval of DCT Industrial Operating’s site plan, it would allow both DCT and residents an additional opportunity to speak at the next planning board meeting on July 13.
‘Dominating the odds:’ fire department’s fiercest member is only 7
Seven-year-old Dominic Mazzio has always had a fascination with firefighters and police officers, according to his mother Ashley. She said he dreamed about being a firefighter, but battles with transverse myelitis and an inoperable brain tumor threatened that dream. Nearly a year ago, however, the Burlington Township Fire Department granted Dominic’s wish by making him an honorary firefighter. Today, the department has ensured all of Burlington Township will know about its fiercest firefighter by naming its newest engine after the honorary firefighter with his nickname “Dominator” adorning the side of the truck.
‘Click It or Ticket’ resulted in 234 summons
Burlington Township Public Safety Director Bruce Painter announced Tuesday, June 6 the results of the Burlington Township Police Department’s participation in the national “Click it or Ticket” seatbelt mobilization campaign. In total, 234 total motor vehicle summonses were written. In addition, officers assigned to the initiative made three controlled substance arrests and four warrant arrests. Painter credited all the men and women of the Burlington Township Police Department for making the initiative successful and for making Burlington Township a safe community.
