Burlington Township Football planning to go even farther in 2017
For the Burlington Township High School Falcons football team, 2016 was a success, even though the team didn’t come home with any trophies. Tom Maderia’s bunch went 9–2 overall and 4–1 in the West Jersey Football League’s Capitol Division, second behind Lenape High School. Their only division loss was to Lenape, a Group V school that eventually lost in the December title game at Rowan University to Timber Creek High School. The Falcons lost several talented players to graduation this summer, including Rutgers’ wide receiver Everett Wormley, Lackawanna’s defensive end Sirvon Wigglesworth and Shippensburg cornerback Nasir Brister.
Burlington Township Eagle Scout Tim Jones earns Eagle Scout Award
Since Tim Jones was 11 years old, Boy Scouts has been a huge part of his life. The 18-year-old reached the highest honor a Boy Scout can achieve, earning his Eagle Scout Award earlier this year. Jones is one of four Scouts who has earned Eagle Scout status in Troop 764. According to Troop 764 Committee Chair Tom Jones, only 6 percent of Boy Scouts obtain the Eagle Scout Award. A boy must earn 21 merit badges, 13 of which are required in areas such as cooking, environmental science, emergency preparedness, first aid, citizenship and others.
Burlington Township Fire Department searching for volunteer firefighters
The Burlington Township Fire Department is a volunteer organization looking for individuals that are willing to serve the community and be a part of their outstanding team. Participants must be at least 16 years of age, be of good character, be able to participate in fire department activities, and be in good physical condition. All training is provided free of charge. Scholarship funding is available, and volunteering is an excellent way to earn community service hours. The fire department also has an exceptional Ride Along Program that provides you with “hands-on” experience.
BTPD investigating serious motor vehicle collision Rt. 541 near Sunset Road
At approximately 2:54 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, the Burlington Township Police Department responded to the area of Route 541 near Sunset Road for a serious motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the collision involved three vehicles. Due to the seriousness of the collision, Route 541 was shut down, and traffic had to be diverted for several hours so that officers could conduct their investigation. The initial investigation indicates that prior to the collision a grey Infiniti was travelling southbound on Route 541 approaching Sunset Road. Just prior to the intersection, the grey Infiniti rear-ended a red Ford SUV that was stopped in traffic. The red Ford SUV then struck a blue Hyundai SUV that was also stopped in traffic. The Infiniti ultimately overturned and came to rest on its roof.
