Introduction to Zen course May 15

The Buddhist Sangha of South Jersey announced it will sponsor an “Introduction to Zen: Beginner’s Mind” workshop and day of meditation led by Jules Shuzen Harris Sensei on May 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Moorestown Friends Meeting (D’Olier Room), 118 E. Main Street, in Moorestown.
Join Jules Shuzen Harris Sensei, Vice Abbot of Soji Zen Center, for a workshop and meditation. Benefits of meditation have now been documented in more than 1,000 published studies conducted at more than 200 universities and research facilities.
“We all agree that training the body through exercise and diet is beneficial, but rarely in Western society do we focus on awakening the healing energies of the brain,” Harris said.
As a Zen teacher, educator and psychotherapist for more than 25 years, Harris has found creative ways to synthesize Western psychology and Zen to achieve dramatic results with his patients and students.
Harris is the first Zen teacher in the Philadelphia area who has received authentic transmission (shiho) — a Zen student who has reached at least the same degree of enlightenment as his master and has been empowered by the latter to carry on her dharma teaching.
The Buddhist Sangha of South Jersey will provide tea and light snacks but you should bring your own lunch.
Chairs will be available for sitting but you may bring your own mat and cushion if you would prefer to sit on the floor.
A limited number of mats and cushions will be available. The suggested donation for the day is $25.
