Iron Cupcake Challenge May 23

On May 23, professional and amateur cupcake bakers will go head to head in a cupcake throwdown bringing their best recipes before local celebrity judges and attempting to win the coveted “Iron Cupcake Champion” title. The biggest winners, however, will be our four-legged friends at the Animal Welfare Assocation of New Jersey based in Voorhees. Of course, those lucky enough to attend the event won’t make out too bad either since spectators get to sample all of the amazing cupcakes that the entrants provide. This will be the sixth Iron Cupcake Challenge hosted by Kati Angelini of Kati’s Kupcakes in Moorestown. Other charities who have benefited from the cupcake throwdowns include The Ronald McDonald House, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, The Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund, The Food Bank of South Jersey and more. Kati believes that bringing cupcake lovers together with worthwhile charities is a win-win situation.

The event will be held on Sunday, May 23 from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Healthy Garden Restaurant, 73 East Main Street, Moorestown. Reservations are recommended. For bakers who may want to enter, please contact Kati Angelini at (609) 332–2172 or check out the Web site for further details: www.meetup.com/Iron-Cupcake-Challenge-Moorestown.
Bakers will compete for Best Taste and Most Creative cupcakes and a $100.00 prize will be awarded to the “Top Baker” winner. Judges for the event will be Silvina Barboza, a famed sugar artist/instructor; Andrew Gershman from the Animal Welfare Association of NJ, Anita Shreeves, a local food blogger from Cherry Hill and one representative from the group who gets a lucky spot as a judge this month to see how it feels to taste the cupcakes instead of bake!
The cost for the “Iron Cupcake Challenge” is $25 for adult bakers and $15 for junior bakers aged 16 and under. Spectators are free and only those entering cupcakes for the prizes are charged the entry fee.
