Tree lighting ceremony is Dec. 2

On Monday, Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m., the holiday season will officially begin in Moorestown as hundreds of families gather on the front lawn of the Community House for our first-ever Tree Lighting Celebration. This event is free and open to everyone. CBS3’s Kathy Orr will live broadcast the event during the 6 o’clock news.

“We are proud to bring this new tradition to our community. The Tree Lighting Celebration embodies all that the Community House stands for in that it creates a new memory and further bonds people and families to each other and to our town,” states George Schulmann, board president.

Laurie Palko, Trustee and chair of the Tree Lighting Committee further emphasizes, “We really wanted to create a positive and festive event that would unite everyone — friends, families and organizations. This is directly aligned with our mission. I could not be happier with the positive response that I’ve heard from people all over town. As well, many groups have heard about it and called us directly to see how they could get involved. This kind of unity is what Moorestown, and the Community House, is all about and the reason this event was created.”

Festivities will begin on the front lawn at 5:30 p.m. and will include:

• Lighting of a Menorah built and donated by the Moorestown Jewish Association

• “Elf on the Shelf” reading by Timothy R. Hollybottom

• Musical entertainment by the Moorestown High School Madrigals

• Non-perishable food and warm clothing collections by Moorestown’s Home and School Association to support MooreKids and the Ministerium Food Pantry

• Hot chocolate donated by Brandywine Senior Living at Moorestown Estates

• Cookies donated by Wegmans

The event will culminate with the lighting of a 20’ Norway Spruce, being planted courtesy of Depenbrock Design, Inc, and generously donated by Pete Palko in honor of his mother with 2,000 LED lights courtesy of Moorestown Hardware. The tree lighting, which will be broadcast live around 6:15 p.m., will be followed by a visit from Santa!

Additional supporters and sponsors of the event include Bayada Nurses, Holman Automotive, Rocco’s Collision, Tickner Wealth Advisors, Moorestown Engine Relief Company and the Moorestown Garden Club.
