The Moorestown DeCafe Concert Series opened its 22nd season with a performance by singer/songwriter Diego Garcia. A volunteer-based coffeehouse concert series that runs from September until March, the Moorestown DeCafe hosts monthly shows at Perkins Center for the Arts, a supporter of the program from the beginning.
The next show is Oct. 17 and will feature Jennifer Yuill. Because the setting is intimate by design, tickets are limited and usually sell out. You can purchase tickets at http://www.perkinsarts.org/experience/concerts/decafe/ for $20, which includes light refreshments.
Born and raised in Fargo, ND, Jennifer started playing piano as soon as she could reach the pedals and began accompanying herself singing in high school. She played a lot of music growing up with her two older brothers and eventually she fronted her first band with them. She went to college at Utah State University, and loved the mountains so much she moved to Salt Lake City and lived there for about six years. She was a big part of the music scene in Salt Lake City in the 80’s. She sang in a 40’s style big band and also put together a Motown revue with her good friends, Lori Lynner and Romona Gibbons called the Sh’Girls.
Jennifer recorded her first album in Philly with producer Bob King in 1992. It was very well received. One of the songs, “Riding the Waves,” was featured in the independent film “Postcards for Paradise Park” by Curt Crane. Her career in music currently involves mostly solo gigs, where she sings her original songs along with the cover music of such performers as Adele, Sara Bareilles, Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin, Coldplay, Pearl Jam, John Hiatt, Sheryl Crow, and Marc Cohn.
Jennifer is now planning on getting into the studio in a few months to record her latest batch of songs.
DeCafe provides a warm coffeehouse environment for great music in an intimate setting surrounded by art located at Perkins Center for the Arts, 395 Kings Highway.
