The Department of Parks & Rec Column and Schedule

Attention recreation nation! As March blows in like a lion, there are the subtle signs that spring is fast approaching. With intermittent warm days and flowers peeking out from under the ice, spring registration for Parks & Recreation spring programs is in full swing! Our recreation nation can’t wait to welcome spring!

The longer days and the warmer weather brings out the best in everyone, and Parks & Recreation is no different. From the Third/Fourth Grade Girls Lacrosse primer program and the Spring Break Lacrosse Clinic, to Outdoor Tennis and Beginner Golf Lessons, to the Arts & Crafts Spring Series and Introduction to Jazz, the Department of Parks & Recreation continues to offer the community a wonderful array of activities in which to participate.

For our youngest members there is Pre-School Ballet and Exposure to Sports. The outdoor tennis program encourages children as young as 5 to pick up a racquet. Tennis, Golf, Creative Ballet, Lacrosse and Arts programs are designed for any age and any level. The focus of recreation activities is to offer all individuals an opportunity to engage in something that speaks to their own personal notion of recreation. From our tiny tikes to our mature adults the Department of Parks & Recreation plans activities for everyone. The Senior Citizens Trip to Resorts Casino is a favorite trip and is offered each year. For adults looking for a fun new activity, or perhaps a return to one played in college, the Ultimate Frisbee League is a great way to round out a weekend and enjoy the spring evening air.

This spring there will be an increased number of programs available for special needs individuals and their families. From social skills and skill building programs like Keyboarding and Handwriting, to Family Support Outings (Everybody Wins Basketball & Open Gym), to Special Needs Soccer and Karaoke/Activities Night, the department is proud to partner with MoorArts and TOPS Soccer to offer these amazing programs.

Just a reminder that all applications for Summer Employment and Summer CIT Programs are due by March 20. Questions can be directed to the department at (856) 914–3093.
