Yes, it’s fall again and for those athletes who enjoy the recreational aspect of sports, Recreation Soccer is just the place. Boasting the most robust and comprehensive feeder program in the county, Moorestown Recreation Soccer begins in kindergarten and allows young boys and girls a perfect opportunity to try soccer.
As an over 50 year old program the Recreation Soccer Program has boasted a comprehensive and inclusive soccer program for all ages. Recreation Soccer starts in kindergarten and repeatedly stresses the fundamentals of skills, sportsmanship and player development. The compact playing season allows younger children the opportunity for athletic development of multiple sports over the course of multiple seasons. Remaining true to recreation ideals which encourage whole athlete development, Recreation Soccer allows all children, grades K-8, the opportunity to participate in developmental, fun sports that provide a friendly, yet competitive, atmosphere.
Kindergarten leagues are teaching leagues that allow for children to learn the basic and developmental skills of soccer. Playing on smaller fields with smaller nets and allowing for on-field coaching gives young players the knowledge and confidence that propels them forward. Grades first to second typically play together which allows first graders the opportunity to play with seasoned second graders. Conversely, the second graders can improve their skill set by teaching their younger teammates. Field sizes grow as do stamina and conditioning levels. The camaraderie and mentoring that occurs in multi-grade league play are life-long skills. As children move up through third and fourth grades the same kind of individual and team development occurs and by the time children reach the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade leagues they are able to compete on a higher level. Many children who play Recreation Soccer often times decide to try out for (and make) school teams. Those who want to continue in the recreation league are able to and enjoy the more relaxed style of play.
Recreation sports are a mindset that allows young people to remain active and healthy throughout their childhood and adulthood. Each year, young men and women go off to college and join club sports that are reminiscent of their youth. They play pick-up games of soccer, softball, basketball … all of those sports that they loved as children. Playing recreation league sports is above all, fun and provides young people with fundamental skills that last a lifetime. The Recreation Department is proud to offer adult soccer which allows athletes to continue competing in a friendly and fun atmosphere.
