The Department of Parks and Rec Column

The Department of Parks and Recreation is pleased to invite all of Moorestown to the Recreation Open House on Saturday, Sept.12. The department is opening its doors to showcase the wide variety of recreation offerings to the community, as well as information about the Moorestown Youth Athletic Association and the department’s Community Partner Organizations. This open house event will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 12 and is free and open to the public.

Community Partner Organizations include the Friends Enrichment Program, Sean Fischel Connect, The Perfect Game, Live Civilly, MooreKids, Monica Buckley Foundation, MoorArts, Kennedy’s Cause and 3rd Floor Friends. The Recreation Open House is designed to attract community members to see the wide variety of programs and activities that are offered to all community members. This event, the Triple “A” of Moorestown — athletics, arts and activities — is open to the community and is designed to attract youth and adults alike to the multitude of activities and opportunities available. Moorestown is a unique community with a wide variety of services available, and we want to showcase it all.

The event will be held on the third floor of the Recreation Center. Each organization will distribute flyers, brochures and/or materials about its programs. Live Civilly will be collecting non-perishable food items and showcasing programs and services available to the community. The Perfect Game will be hosting a “gently used” sports equipment swap at which young people looking for sports equipment may take items and those people looking to donate gently used items can drop them off. Sean Fischel Connect will have information about its annual run, and the many other partners will showcase their services. During the open house event, the Recreation Street Gym will host hourly events like kickball and three-point contests, and tours of the new Recreation commercial kitchen will be offered. Recreation chef-in-residence Katie Sklarow will be showcasing the opportunities within the kitchen, and samples of class productions will be available to the public.

Please join us for the Recreation Center Open House on Sept.12. For questions or more information, please feel free to email [email protected]. TheRecreation Center is eager to open its doors to everyone.
