Assemblywoman Carol Murphy presented a Joint Legislative Resolution on behalf of the 7th Legislative District in recognition of Sandy Hook Promise
for their extensive work bringing awareness to issues of gun violence and school safety.

Sandy Hook Promise has earned a reputation on a national scale for fostering common-sense solutions to gun-related deaths due to crime, suicide and accidental discharge of weapons. They have partnered with the New Jersey Department of Education in order to help train New Jersey’s students, educators, and school administrators on ways to identify, assess, intervene, and get help for those exhibiting at-risk behaviors through its Start With Hello, Say Something, and SOS Signs of Suicide programs.

“The work that Sandy Hook Promise has done so far in New Jersey is incredibly important in preventing another tragedy like Sandy Hook here in our state” said Assemblywoman Murphy. “We recognize the ongoing problems of gun violence in schools as there have been over 60 school shootings since 2013 and that has to end. Students in New Jersey and the rest of the country deserve to feel safe and secure in our schools. We are grateful for the New Jersey Department of Education’s partnership with Sandy Hook Promise and
look forward to the implementation of their programs in schools throughout New Jersey.”
