Joseph Russell Johnson Jr., an 85-year-old resident of Moorestown, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
Johnson was born on February 17, 1931 in Riverside. He moved to Moorestown in 1944 where he was a life-long resident. After graduating from high school, he went to Dickenson College and graduated in 1952. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, R.I. and Annapolis, M.D.
Johnson met wife Dottie (predeceased 2010) during this time and cherished their 54 years of marriage. Johnson had an extremely fulfilling career with Rohm & Haas Company in Philadelphia, where he was employed for 38 years, retiring in 1990. He was also a life-long member of Trinity Church in Moorestown, and loved getting away to his residence on Long Beach Island since the mid-50s.
Joe is survived by three children; Joseph ‘Rusty’ Johnson III of Moorestown, David Johnson and his wife Paula of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., and Dottie Howie and her husband, Craig, of Glastonbury, Conn. Eight grandchildren also survive him: Kaitlyn, Brittany, Leigh, Kathryn, Sarah, Rusty, Elizabeth and Chris.
Aemorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 at Trinity Episcopal Church, located at 207 W. Main St. Visiting will be from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the church.
