Burlington County to hold free shredding event for county residents on May 7

Residents can shred their sensitive documents from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Burlington County Resource Recovery Complex.

Burlington County Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio has announced that the freeholder’s next paper shredding event will be held on Sunday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine, at the Burlington County Resource Recovery Complex located at 22000 Burlington-Columbus Road, Bordentown.

“At the last paper shredding event, over 1,500 residents joined us to responsibly dispose of their confidential documents,” Garganio said. “We are happy to continue to offer these events which help residents reduce the risk of identity theft and continue to expand recycling, and hope that everyone takes advantage of this wonderful service.”

Residents are urged to bring only “confidential” documents for shredding, such as bank and credit card statements, tax returns, papers with account numbers or social security numbers. They will be shredded on-site. No binders, plastic folders, computer disks or plastic credit cards will be accepted. Up to four bags or boxes per car will be accepted. Already-shredded paper can also be recycled at this event.

“With volunteers on hand to unload your confidential files, you do not even need to get out of your vehicle,” Garganio said. “The county continues to be proactive in removing recyclables from our waste stream and we encourage residents to make use of shred events and all other county services for proper waste disposal.”

Dates and locations for additional shredding events will be announced in the coming weeks.

“Residents are reminded that they can download ‘Recycle Coach,’ an innovative mobile app designed to make recycling even easier. The app allows users to set personal recycling reminders, confirm whether or not an item can be recycled, or report any problems,” Garganio said. “Shred event reminders are also included on the free and easy to use app. To download, go to the iTunes or GooglePlay app store.”
