Obituary: Alexandra “Lexie” Lee Shabel

Ms. Alexandra “Lexie” Lee Shabel died peacefully in Hollywood, FL at the age of 50.

Lexie is survived by her parents, Norman and Arleen Shabel of Aventura, FL and her brother, Daniel Shabel of Mt. Laurel, NJ.

Lexie was born on November 28th, 1966 in East Orange, NJ to Norman and Arleen Shabel. She graduated from Moorestown High School in 1985 and Syracuse University with a degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in photography in 1989. Lexie lived for a period of time in New York City after college, traveled extensively and finally settled in Santa Fe, NM.

Involved in the film industry for many years, she worked as a personal assistant, location scout and camera operator before she started directing and producing her own documentary films. Her videography includes the films, “We Like to Drink: We Like to Play Rock ‘n Roll,” a critically acclaimed rockumentary about the Unband rock band; “House of Rock,” a story about people in southwest United States, who built and resided in houses comprised of cliffs of rock, and: “The ‘Me’ Film,” which documents Lexie’s struggle with cancer and her goals of discovering holistic methods of treatment for the disease. Lexie was also the founder of Breast Wishes Fund (www.breastwishesfund.org), an organization focused upon coalescing holistic and eastern remedies with modern non-chemo methods of cancer treatment.

The funeral will be held June 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapel located at 17250 West Dixie Highway in North Miami Beach, FL. Refreshments will be served after the funeral service at Atlantic 1 at the Point, 21200 Northeast 38th Avenue, #2501, Aventura, FL 33180. Rabbi Allan Tuffs will officiate the ceremony.
