This past weekend the Medford Milers Running Club’s 12 person relay team competed in the 200 mile American Odyssey relay race from Gettysburg PA to Washington DC. The race started at 11:30 a.m. on Friday and ended at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. Each runner had to run three separate legs during the race, which approximated to 16 to 18 miles.

The Milers team, captained by Kevin Doyle, won first overall out of 86 teams, finishing at an average 7:04 per mile pace, and completing the event in just over 23.5 hours. There was little to no sleep for the runners and the Miler support crew.

The club website features the event and more information can be found at http://www.medfordnjmilers.com/news/2018/5/1/milers-win-the-american-odyssey-10-relay

The average age of the 12 runners competing for the Milers in the relay was 45. The Milers defeated the defending champion team from 2017, a group of 20 year old Army Cadets from West Point.
