Military Advanced Education has named Burlington County College a top military-friendly college in its 2014 Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges & Universities.
MAE’s 2014 Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges & Universities, available at www.mae-kmi.com, provides potential students with information about institutions that have exceptional service to the military men and women.
“Burlington County College’s commitment to serving the military is stronger than ever,” said Christine Ulch, Director of BCC’s Military Education and Veterans Services. “Burlington County College is consistently recognized for its military programs and that’s only possible with support from every department in the college and the county.”
Ulch cited several recent military initiatives at the college:
In-county tuition rates for the military regardless of their location.
A new scholarship program to benefit civilian spouses/domestic partners of active-duty military.
A partnership with the Burlington County Department of Military and Veterans Services and the county Workforce Investment Board to streamline services to better meet the educational and career needs of our military population.
A new veterans center as part of a planned $3.1 million renovation project, supported by the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders and State of New Jersey, at the Lewis M. Parker Center on the Pemberton campus.
Institutions were evaluated on several factors including the flexibility of online learning options, servicemember opportunity colleges participation, on-campus active duty/veteran assistance, the support provided to the families of servicemembers, faculty trained in veteran reintegration issues, presence on military installations, and full-time counselors trained in veteran-specific mental health concerns.
“Our staff used strict criteria to evaluate the submissions of the respondents, and we had a record number of schools participating this year. We believe the guide serves as an invaluable tool for both education services officers and transition officers when advising servicemembers about their educational opportunities,” said Kelly Fodel, MAE’s editor.
