Public input session scheduled for Route 70 corridor land use study

The Medford Township Council has asked the Planning Board to prepare a land use study of the Route 70 Highway Corridor Zoning Districts to analyze existing zoning and land development regulations that may be unduly impacting development along the corridor which may include setbacks, buffers and building size limitations among others.

Council seeks to create a business-friendly environment that encourages appropriate levels of development without negatively impacting traffic or the character of the community, in an effort to strengthen the Township’s tax ratable base. Councilman Frank Czekay said, “It is important that Medford evaluate ways to retain existing uses and attract new businesses to promote economic development along the corridor, while preserving the character of Medford.”

The Planning Board has appointed a subcommittee to undertake this study, which will be prepared and adopted as a re-examination report of the Township Master Plan. The study is being prepared by Taylor Design Group, Inc. of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, Planning Consultants for the Township and Planning Board.

The Planning Board has scheduled a public input session for Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Public Safety Building, 91 Union Street. The Planning Board and Township Council invite all interested businesses, land owners, and residents to come out and provide their input with respect to the Route 70 corridor, before any recommendations are developed.
