Palmyra woman injured in Hartford Road crash

The following information was provided by the Medford Township Police Department.

On May 16 at 9:06 a.m., Medford Township Police, Fire and EMS were dispatched to Hartford Road for a report of a vehicle that struck a utility pole.

Upon locating the crash, it was determined that the driver, a 62-year-old female from Palmyra, needed to be transported to Cooper Trauma for potentially life threatening injuries. She was extricated from the vehicle by Medford Fire utilizing the “jaws of life” hydraulic extrication tool and then transported to Cooper Hospital in Camden City by Medford EMS. The South Star Medevac Helicopter was unavailable for transport due to inclement weather.

Medford Police Traffic Unit investigation revealed the driver was south on Hartford Road in her 1999 Ford Taurus when her vehicle left the roadway, struck a utility pole and then continued off road for some distance until she came to final rest in a drainage ditch that parallels the roadway.

Hartford Road was closed for approximately an hour and a half, for the extrication, crash investigation and vehicle removal. The drvier was treated for possible internal head, neck and chest injuries but her condition was downgraded after her arrival at Cooper Trauma and she is expected to make a full recovery. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
