Medford Police arrest travel agency owner after reports of fraud
The following information was provided by the Medford Township Police Department.
In February, the Medford Township Police Criminal Investigations Bureau began an investigation into alleged fraudulent activity at the Independent Traveller travel agency, located on Taunton Road. Police were contacted by several subjects who claimed to have paid for a trip which they did not receive.
The investigation revealed that eight people had paid a total of $45,750 to the Independent Traveller for a trip, “Masterpiece Classics of the English Midlands,” that was to commence on Aug. 10, 2013. The trip was cancelled by the travel agency and no refunds were made.
On July 8, the owner of the Independent Traveller, a 67-year-old female from Medford, was arrested and charged with eight counts of theft by failure to make the required disposition of the funds. She was released pending a hearing in the Burlington County Superior Court.
