Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio Announces Reduced Adoption Fees for Cats and Kittens

Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio announced on Wednesday, Aug. 31 that through Sept. 5, the Burlington County Animal Shelter is offering approved adopters a special price of $20 for any cat or kitten.

“This summer has seen a significant uptick in the number of cats and kittens brought to the Burlington County Animal Shelter so we’re asking the public to help by adopting or fostering these great pets,” said Director Garganio. “Now through Sept. 5 is the perfect time to adopt. All adoptions of cats and kittens will cost only $20 and include spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, vaccines and a free month of pet insurance.”

In conjunction with the Friends of the Burlington County Animal Shelter volunteer group, the shelter has a cat/kitten fostering program. Currently, more than 100 families in Burlington County are fostering felines, but the program is always looking for more foster homes.

“Foster families take care of kittens until they’re old enough to be fixed and adopted,” said Theresa Kopasz, president of the Friends of BCAS. “Senior cats are fostered because they are stressed by life in a busy shelter. Even mildly ill cats are placed in foster to help them recover faster. The shelter veterinarians and vet techs provide the medical care and the fosters provide the food and love. We need more people to join our life-saving foster team. It’s a great way for children and young adults to help the shelter animals.”

“While our animal shelter staff do a wonderful job caring for our shelter animals, there really is no place like home,” added Director Garganio. “We will be glad to assist with the adoption or foster process and finding residents your forever friend.”

The Burlington County Animal Shelter is located at 35 Academy Drive in Westampton, behind the Burlington County Library. The shelter is open noon to 4 p.m. every day except Thursday, when it is open noon to 7 p.m. For more information, call (609) 265–5073.
