The Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts will be in attendance
On Saturday, April 22, from 3 to 5 p.m., the Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts will be visiting Medford’s Friends Meeting House on 10 Union Street to host a special tea. They are making this special trip support the Butterfly Garden & Preserve created by Pinelands Garden Club with the Medford community in 2015. The young and “young at heart” are invited to join the fun while supporting a very special community effort.
Located in Still Park (formerly Cranberry Park), the Butterfly Garden began as a dream of members of the Pinelands Garden Club to help with the endangerment of butterflies. As pollinators, butterflies are critical to food production here and nationwide. Community partners immediately stepped up to support this ambitious project through their generous donations. Courtney Longnecker created the landscaping plan; Eric Neugent Septic & Construction dug the garden site; Villano & Son Concrete poured and designed the stamped concrete walkway; scouts and college volunteers provided work support; local businesses donated supplies and artwork. With the full support of the Medford Township Council, many hands worked together to create and maintain this important garden & butterfly preserve.
The Pinelands Garden Club of Medford coordinated these generous community donations while providing the research, plants, and maintenance critical to the garden’s success. The Pinelands Garden Club community commitment is funded through club work projects rewarded through the Medford Townships Clean Communities grant, boutiques, and other activities. The Mad Hatter Tea is the most recent project to raise supporting funds while also furthering the club’s mission of education and community outreach.
