The holidays mean traffic and crowds, but they also bring the sights, smells, sounds and community events, that make it a special time of year. Here is a list of some things going on around town that are sure to hype up your holiday cheer.
Winterfest
The Olde Marlton Winterfest is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 3 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Main Street Firehouse, located at 26 E. Main St. This annual event is hosted by the Center for the Arts of Southern New Jersey and includes holiday music, food, vendors and a visit and pictures with Santa. Cherokee Holiday Craft Fair
Find unique gifts for the holidays at the annual Cherokee High School holiday craft show on Nov. 20, which features crafts, needlework, woodcrafts, jewelry, pottery, clothing and more. There will be food served in an international food court, courtesy of student clubs. The event takes place at Cherokee High School North from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Cherokee Class of 2011 and other student organizations. Cherokee High School is located at 120 Tomlinson Mill Road.
Miracle on 34th Street
Cherokee students have been hard at work preparing this year’s fall show: “Miracle on 34th Street,” which will hit the stage on Nov. 26 and 27 and on Dec. 3 and 4 at the Lenape Regional Performing Arts Center, located at Cherokee High School South. A Christmas Market
The community will hold a Christmas Market on Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to benefit Emmie, a Marlton girl suffering from DiGeorge Syndrome, and her family. The event will be held at the Blue Barn Recreation Center and will feature a visit from Santa, artists, crafters, food vendors, a bake sale, games and crafts for children. Emmie has endured seven open-heart surgeries, cardiac arrest, and strokes. She is also severely immuno-compromised. All proceeds will go to Emmie’s Fund to help with the financial burdens brought on by Emmie’s health issues.
Celebrate the Holidays at the Evesham Library
Children ages 3 to 5 are invited to Thanksgiving Tales on Nov. 22 at 10:30 a.m. Celebrate Thanksgiving by listening to crazy turkey stories, talking about the holiday, and making a feathery craft.
Kids and teens ages 9 through 18 are invited to make a bead craft for a holiday gift at the library on Dec. 11 at 2 p.m.
Teens age 12 through 18 can make a holiday wreath craft at the library on Dec. 18 at 2 p.m.
Children ages 3 to 5 can come to a Holiday Story time on Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m. Children will listen to Christmas stories, sing Hanukkah songs, and celebrate the season. They will make a craft and leave with a holiday surprise to give to a loved one.
Kids in kindergarten through second grade can come to Art 4 Kids: Winter Wonderland on Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. Children will celebrate the season and have fun while learning all about art. Children will create winter themed art project. The library will host the same event for children ages 3 to 5 at 11:15 a.m. on the same date.
