Bio-diesel here we come

By ROBERT LINNEHAN

Is the future on the horizon for township vehicles? The Evesham Township Council may have taken the first step to converting the township’s fleet to a bio-diesel fuel source.

The township awarded a contract to Taylor Oil Company not to exceed $100,000 for the purchase of bio-diesel fuel for use by operating departments.

Mayor Randy Brown said this could be a major cost saving initiative for the township and its fleet of vehicles. This contract is open ended and the township is not obligated to order, accept or pay for the goods and services until an order is placed.

Bio-diesel fuels are typically derived from animal fat or vegetable oil, dependent on which type of fuel is used. They can be used in any standard diesel engine and are different than vegetable or waste fuels that can only be used in a converted diesel engine.
