Mayor’s column: Evesham Township residents prove their giving spirit

The holiday season is truly about giving, and Evesham Township residents once again proved they were ready to help their neighbors in need this holiday season.
As your mayor, I couldn’t be more proud to call Evesham my home with our residents’ most recent example of generosity.
The Giving Tree holiday program was another success this year, and several needy residents had a brighter holiday as a result.
Evesham Township is about community, something I have been supportive of since becoming your mayor in 2007.
We continue to grow and thrive as time goes on. It’s wonderful to be part of this awesome community.
Needy residents were provided with warm clothes, toys and other items as a result of your generous donations. For that, I am thankful to you.
As we begin a new year, please continue to remain mindful of those less fortunate and know that there are many ways to show support. The gift of time is just as meaningful, and our community has a plethora of organizations always seeking volunteers.
Contact some of our local non-profits and learn of different ways to help:
• Operation Yellow Ribbon of South Jersey welcomes home soldiers, sends packages and consistently holds fundraisers for those serving and protecting. Monetary donations can be made on the website; in addition, welcome home celebrations and fundraisers are announced on www.operationyellowribbonsouthjersey.org.
• The Marlton Elks support student scholarships, drug-free programs and support our troops. Find out how to join and give back at www.elks.org.
• The Food Bank of South Jersey is an organization that feeds our entire region. Find out how to feed a local family in need at www.foodbanksj.org.
Evesham is also the home of numerous churches and synagogues, all of which support community outreach and positive impact.
There are many more local non-profit groups, and information can be found by contacting the Evesham Township Department of Recreation and Senior Services.
It’s the love and value we have for our community that make Evesham Township as great as we are.
Have a safe, healthy and happy New Year.
