Two prominent business and community leaders, Roy Fazio of Medford and Terriann Procida of Moorestown have been named the 2014 recipients of the Samaritan Circle of Excellence Awards. The awards will be presented at The Gatsby Gala on Feb. 22 — the not-for-profit’s annual Celebration of Life fundraising event — sponsored by The Holman Automotive Group.
The Circle of Excellence Award celebrates those advancing the field of hospice and palliative care through personal and corporate commitment and community service.
Roy Fazio, Partner and Executive Vice President of The Protocall Group, is a long-time Samaritan volunteer board member, golf tournament co-chair and tireless hospice and healthcare advocate. Fazio, one of Samaritan’s founding volunteers, joined its Board of Trustees in 1983, just three years after Samaritan’s launch as the first hospice to serve southern New Jersey — and one year after successful advocacy in Washington resulted in Medicare reimbursement of the fledgling US hospice movement.
As co-chair of the annual golf tournament for the last 10 years, Fazio has helped raise more than $1 million for programs and services which receive no other reimbursement. His strong support and advocacy earned him the 2003 Community Leader of the Year award from the New Jersey Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
Fazio’s community service extends beyond Samaritan. Nineteen years ago, he developed and still chairs a national trade organization of non-competing independent staffing industry companies to share best practices. He currently serves on the board of Liberty Bell Bank, as well as on the Burlington County Chamber Economic Development Committee and Military Affairs Committee. Former affiliations include the board of the Chamber of Commerce of Southern New Jersey and the board of the Homecare Association of America.
Terriann Procida, founding partner of Innovative Benefit Planning L.L.C., is a healthcare industry expert and an active volunteer for Samaritan and a host of other community organizations. As chair from 2010–2013 of Samaritan’s annual Celebration of Life Gala, Procida helped to raise close to $500,000 for Samaritan programs and services.
Procida was appointed to the board of United Benefit Advisors in January 2013 and has been board chair at Archway Programs since 2002. She has served as a grant reviewer for the Community Women’s Fund and supported Hopeworks ‘N Camden, Philadelphia Workforce Development Corporation, Planned Parenthood of Southern New Jersey, Twin Oaks Community Services and Community Access Unlimited.
Samaritan’s annual Celebration of Life Gatsby Gala will take place on Feb. 22 at The Westin Mt. Laurel. The opening reception begins at 7 p.m. followed by dinner, Circle of Excellence award presentations, live music, dancing, live and silent auctions and drawing of two Delightful Dining raffle winners. The Delightful Dining raffle presents two winners with 12 gift certificates to local restaurants each valued at $200. Tickets are $10.
Proceeds from the evening benefit those Samaritan programs and services which receive no reimbursement from Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance. “As a not-for-profit agency, Samaritan has never turned anyone away for inability to pay,” Boccolini said. “And with the continued support of our community, that tradition will continue.”
