Evesham mayor Randy Brown proclaims May 17–23 ‘Evesham Safe Boating Week’

While declaring his landlubber status, Evesham mayor Randy Brown recognized the importance of practicing boating safety by presenting members of The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary in Marlton with a proclamation calling May 17–23 Evesham Safe Boating Week.

The proclamation was read during the May 6 Evesham Town Council meeting.

According to Coast Guard Auxiliarist Michael Slepian, “The Auxiliary works closely with the U.S. Coast Guard to emphasize boating safety. We teach boating safety courses and provide free vessel safety checks. Above all, we stress the importance of wearing life jackets, especially for children. Wear them. It is nearly impossible to put a life jacket on after falling in the water.”

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed, volunteer arm of the US Coast Guard. Its primary mission is Recreational Boater Safety. In addition, the Auxiliary contributes to the safety and security of our citizens, ports, waterways and coastal regions, as directed by the United States Coast Guard. Auxiliarists balance missions of Recreational Boating Safety and Coast Guard support with Maritime Homeland Security and other challenges that emerge as a result of a growing understanding of changes required in the post-9/11 era.
