Van Zant Elementary School held it’s annual Colonial Day this week, Evesham Police are looking for suspects in an armed robbery and a robbery by distraction and two Cherokee students received academic and character honors. Catch up on the week that was with the Weekly Roundup:
Blast from the past at Van Zant Elementary School with annual Colonial Day event
What’s old was new again this week at Van Zant Elementary School, when fifth-grade students and teachers put on their tri-corner hats, bonnets, billowy shirts and more for the school’s annual Colonial Day. The annual Van Zant tradition is held one day every year to serve as a culmination for the fifth-grade students’ social studies unit on the migration and life of America’s early settlers and their interactions with the continent’s native populations.
Evesham Police seek information on suspect in armed robbery of gas station on Route 70
On March 22 at 1:15 p.m., the Evesham Police Department responded to an armed robbery in progress at the Valero Gas Station, 771 W. Route 70. Police say a suspect brandished a handgun and demanded money from the attendant and then fled on foot towards the rear of the building.
Burlington County announces Burlington County Clean Communities event for April 8
Burlington County Freeholder Linda Hughes has announced that the Burlington County Freeholders are seeking volunteers to participate in the in a county park clean-up day scheduled to take place on April 8 at Amico Island Park, located at 81 Norman Avenue in Delran. The event is rain or shine.
Evesham Police suspect duo used distraction to steal from register at Burlington Coat Factory
On March 4, Evesham Police say the two females in the accompanying surveillance photograph are suspected of conducting a distraction scam at the Burlington Coat Factory, 229 S. Route 73, to steal $1,120 from a register. Police say the scam consisted of one female distracting a cashier while the other stole money from the register.
Marlton student wins Widener University High School Leadership Award
Widener University, in partnership with WCAU-TV NBC10, is recognizing 174 area students, including one from Marlton, who won of the Widener University High School Leadership Awards. The program recognizes students from high schools throughout the region for their abilities to “stand up for what is right, address a wrong and make a difference in their communities or schools.” This year’s local Marlton winner is Alyssa St Jean of Cherokee High School.
Cherokee High School senior wins gold medals in Regional Scholastic Arts and Writing Award
Cherokee High School senior Nicole Tota has won three gold medals and five silver medals in the Regional Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards for her short stories and poems. Tota is currently a Gold Medal Finalist in the National Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards.
